Drama review: Napa at the 2017 National Theatre Festival, "Jahudiki"

The National Academy of Performing Arts, Napa, performed the drama "Jahudiki Rahl" at the Pakistan National Arts Council in Islamabad, where audiences filled the auditorium, part of the National Theatre Festival of October 31. This classic play was created by Khan Kashmir, Shakespeare of India, a legendary 19th century writer whose work was adapted to the stage on many occasions. In February 2017, Napa was performing in Karachi, perhaps hoping to show the work again in front of a hungry, twin-world audience. The play by Halid Ahmed Director, the audience took some time to gradually into the play, but when they entered the play, the rhythm of the play instead of keep up.

The play was built on the background of ancient Rome, where the drama team prepared elaborate costumes, a multitude of backgrounds, spontaneous singing and dramatic music, all demonstrating their commitment, but unfortunately none of them were integrated. This Shakespeare-like tragedy tells of a Roman Wang Zimalks, played by Kashf Hussein, who fell in love with the beautiful Jewish girl Lesher, played by Marya Sade. The protagonist performs very well and performs very justly and nobly in his role. Lesher with his beautiful and elegant to tie him--two people on stage has a strong chemical reaction.

Although the music is very influential, but the song is not pleasant. Some of the poems lacked a bright spot, but they still won a bit of applause. The plot is fascinating and full of references to our society, but the drama itself is intolerable.

The rest of the actors occasionally showed emotion when needed, but seemed to be less devoted to their role. Roman priest Brutus was played by Akbar Islam, an exception, and his performance was well received by the audience. The play has a very strong, thought-provoking effect on the choice between love and belief in the Lesher Marquez requirement. In such an intense climax scene, actually has the comedy element, this actually has the relaxed effect, but has destroyed the story the flow.

Comedy character Sherkhan, play this role is Falkhan Aram, and his wife ", the actor Zarka Naz, both lie and deceive each other. The conflict between the two has a comical comic effect, but the frequent switch from Roman robes to the Patan family is a bit too much, especially when the plot is serious.

Viewers are more likely to be confused because of the sudden change of scene, character, narration, costume and plot. In Rome, for example, the party's theatrical pie was replaced by a Pakistani dress scene in robes, pajamas and scarves.

When the curtain pulls up, the play shows the people's sufferings between faith and love. It shows that religious persecution has been haunting society for so many years and recalls anti-Semitism. This play reminds us of the discrimination and persecution of minorities in our society, suggesting that our society is not fundamentally different from the ancient Rome. Although the information is simple, the play is not simple.
